Happy Green Patrick Day!

That's an almost 4 year old's version of St. Patrick's Day. Well, it makes sense, since everyone's so obsessed with all things green, doesn't it?

Jeff decided to serve the kids green milk for dinner. I'd forgotten that my mom used to put green milk on our cereal on St. Patrick's Day morning. I thought for sure Brendan wouldn't touch it. But it was Alyssa who had a problem with it. Brendan actually just requested a snack (I'm still hungry, Mama!) and he wanted green milk to go with it. Being the sucker that I am, I actually complied. Who am I to stand in the way of happiness when all it requires is one drop of green food coloring?

Why does this bother me so much?

Jeff is sick. He came home yesterday morning from work and pretty much spent the whole day in bed. Nausea, fatigue, chills, etc. Didn't actually hurl until about 5:30 this morning.

Okay, he's a big boy, he can take care of himself. Except I am now terrified that the kids or I will get it. In fact, I know we will. I'm so sure of it that I spent the entire night sitting awake worrying about it. And what good does that do? None. So why do I do it? It makes me so mad that I can't handle a little illness without freaking out. Definitely my worst mommy-failing.

It really bugs me that I can't comfort my children when they're sick. I can clean up messes if I absolutely have to, but I can't hold a poor, miserable child on my lap if I even think they might be sick. How terrible is that? I suck.

Well, time to start my day on a few half-hour naps in front of late-night TV from last night. Should be a great day.

Gross!

Title said in my best Napolean Dynamite voice (which isn't very good).....

So today I dropped the kids off at their respective schools and went to do a little shopping. I got done around 9:30 and I was starving! I was practically drooling on the way home thinking about the bagel and cream cheese I was going to have for breakfast - big, thick plain bagel with garden vegetable cream cheese that I just bought yesterday during my weekly grocery shopping trip. Mmmmmm....

As soon as I got home, I put the bagel in the toaster, poured a big glass of juice and got out the cream cheese. Come on, come on, toaster! Finally! Opened up the brand new package of cream cheese and noticed it was kind of crumbly. What the hell has Kraft done to prefectly good cream cheese??? Got the cream cheese on nice and thick how I like it and go to put it back in the fridge. Just happened to catch a glance at the bottom of the container with the date on it - 17 Dec 2005! What the hell, that was almost 4 months ago! And yes, I had just bought this yesterday!

I briefly considered still eating my lovely bagel - it looked and smelled so good! Well, except for the cheese being all crumbly... But I still wanted it! Okay, okay, the last thing I need is to eat some nasty cheese, right? Boohoo, into the garbage it went.

By some miracle I hadn't thrown out the receipt. Okay, so it's actually because I tossed it on the counter and forgot about it. Now I have to remember to take it and the nasty cheese with me the next time I go to the store so they will replace it. Oh, and try to keep everyone else in this house from eating that junk hanging out in the fridge!

Another week, another trip to the doctor

It's Friday, so it must be time for an OB check-up. Nice and boring today like it has been the past 4 weeks. Just fork over the $20 co-pay and we'll see you next week. Not that I'm complaining, we like boring.

Poor Brendan wasn't too impressed with the nurse today though. She's trying to be nice, but I wish she would just leave him alone. He also told me today that he was scared of the doctor, scared of his beard. Apparently this particular beard must be especially fearful because Poppa's beard is not scary. Interesting. Makes you wonder what exactly is going on in the mind of an almost 4 year old.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon

Everybody's got a blog, so of course, I needed one too! Maybe someday I'll actually have something interesting to say to go along with it.
